Geometry and Kinematics in the Central Broad - Line Region of a Seyfert 1 Galaxy

چکیده
We recorded spectra of the highly variable Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 110 in a variability campaign with the 9.2m Hobby-Eberly Telescope at McDonald Observatory in order to study the detailed line profile variations of the broad emission lines. Here we show that only an AGN model predicting the formation of the broad Hβ line emission in the wind of an accretion disk matches the observed 2-D variability pattern. Furthermore, we derive an improved mass of the central supermassive black hole of M = 1.0 +1.0 −0.5 × 10 7 M⊙ from the Hβ velocity-delay map.

Optical emission line properties of Narrow Line Seyfert 1s and comparison AGN
Based on a new spectroscopic sample observed using the WHT, we examine the kinematic properties of the various emission line regions in narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) by modelling their profiles using multiple component fits. We interpret these results by comparison with velocity components observed for different lines species covered in the same spectrum, and equivalent components meas...
متن کاملAsymmetrical structure of ionization and kinematics in the Seyfert galaxy NGC 5033
We present integral field spectroscopy of NGC 5033, a low luminosity Seyfert galaxy. The observations were made with INTEGRAL, a fiber based system operating at the WHT. The intensity map of the Hβ emission line represents a spiral or ring-like pattern of HII regions. On the contrary, the [OIII] intensity map morphology is markedly anisotropic. The strong morphological differences imply that th...
متن کاملStrong optical line variability in Mkn 110 ?
We present results of a long-term variability campaign on the Seyfert 1 galaxy Markarian 110. Mkn 110 is a narrow-line Seyfert 1 object hosted in a morphological peculiar galaxy. We monitored the optical continuum and the line intensities as well as their profiles over a time interval of nearly ten years. The continuum and the Balmer lines varied by a factor of 2 to 5 within two years. The HeII...
متن کاملEvidence for Supermassive Black Holes in Active Galactic Nuclei from Emission-Line Reverberation
Enission-line variability data for Seyfert 1 galaxies provide strong evidence for the existence of supermassive black holes in the nuclei of these galaxies, and that the line-emitting gas is moving in the gravitational potential of that black hole. The time-delayed response of the emission lines to continuum variations is used to infer the size of the line-emitting region, which is then combine...
متن کاملTesting Radiation Pressure Corrections to Reverberation Mapping Masses
Multi-epoch reverberation mapping of the Seyfert galaxy, NGC 5548, suggests that radiation pressure is not strongly biasing the black hole (BH) masses derived for active galactic nuclei (AGNs). The model proposed by Marconi et al. to account for radiation pressure in BH mass estimates fails to explain the observations of NGC 5548, the only AGN with reverberation campaigns spanning a sufficientl...
